Professor Akito Takasaki
Vice President
Shibaura Institute of Technology
Professor Akito Takasaki earned his Doctor of Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology and his Doctor of Science from Hiroshima University. His career began as a researcher at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute and later at the OECD Halden Reactor Project, Institutt for Energiteknikk in Halden, Norway. He then transitioned to the Department of Mathematics and Physics at the National Defense Academy before joining Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) in 1996. Since 2021, he has served as Vice President of SIT.
In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Medal Komisji Edukacji Narodowej by the Polish Ministry of Higher Education in 2011 and was granted the title of Honorary Consul by AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland, in 2017.
He has held visiting professorships at the Department of Physics at Washington University in St. Louis (USA) and the Faculty of Energy and Fuels at AGH University of Science and Technology (Poland). Publishing more than 150 scientific publications in the fields of mechanics of materials, materials science, and engineering, Professor Takasaki has made significant academic contributions. He has served as a trustee of the Materials Research Society of Japan and as an academic advisor to the ASEAN University Network/Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network. Since 2021, he has chaired the board of directors of the Japan University Consortium for Transnational Education, leading initiatives to promote international higher education in Japan for students from Southeast Asian countries.
